British Surplus Arms (BSA) is a United Kingdom weapons manufacturer and distributer that deals with the distribution of surplus British Army weaponry as well as the design and manufacture of new firearms, many based on the surplus weapons of WWII and other outdated designs, updating them to be modern. BSA is renowned for cheap, reliable firearm designs, though it also deals with the production of some vehicles. BSA is the primary supplier of the British Army.

BSA firearms by tradition have two designations; an official model code and a nickname. Generally, they use the following system:

  • LG - "Gun": Machineguns and other heavier weaponry such as grenade launchers
  • LP - "MachinePistol": Machinepistols, SMGs, and other compact weapons firing handgun cartridges
  • LR - "Rifle": Battle and Assault Rifles
  • LS - "Slug/Shotgun": Shotguns, and rifled slug guns, similar large bore weapons
  • LH - "Handgun": Traditional one-handed pistols, revolvers, and other handguns

As an example, the LMG pictured above has the model code of LG98 and the nickname "Spike". Other model codes have been used in addition to those above, such as with the SMX-15 "Raptor" rotary sniper rifle.
