The Type-2SH is an IDI shotgun, notable both for its unique pumping mechanism and its incredibly widespread usage. Also of note is that the Type-2 never received a Tehk model number. The Type-2 came chambered in several bores from the start, including 20, 14, 12, 10, and 8 gauge, and was suitable for accurate firing of slug and saboted dart rounds - though some of these required replacing the smooth bore barrel with a rifled version.

Standard furniture was constructed out of Red Oak - making it quite heavy but also formidably sturdy. Due to this the Type-2 came to be the preferred shotgun of the Third War on all sides because of its subsequent utility as a melee weapon. Most of the after market tube magazine extensions for the Type-2 also included a bayonet lug, further increasing its close combat potential. After the end of the Third War, the weapon had become outdated and fell out of use. Later, synthetic furniture was made available, in various camouflages, and the reciever was redesigned to use lighter materials - this marked a return of the Type-2 to one of the most widely used shotguns in the world.

Pump Mechanism

The pump mechanism of the Type-2, which is one of the most visually distinct features of this shotgun, is unusual. It extends roughly twice as far down as the tube magazine, where a spring is located. The spring is by default disengaged from the pump, but when engaged the next pump will not only cycle the weapon, but also charge the spring. The spring's purpose is to act as a pseudo-automatic loader - when the next shell is fired, the spring automatically ejects it and loads another. This allows the user to effectively fire twice in a row with just one pump. After this process finishes, the spring automatically disengages from the pump unless the user squeezes a pressure switch between his fingers on the pump. This fail-safe was added after initial field testing to make follow-up shots easier, as pumping with the spring engaged requires noticeably more force.
